Em's Modern Metal
Radio Show
Em’s Modern Metal is a metal exclusive radio show that I started in February 2023 and continue to host. Since the show’s creation, it has consisted of weekly one-hour shows that present the “best and heaviest songs from the Modern Metal scene” on student radio station, Cam FM 97.2.
Each hour focuses on a variety of sub-genres, from thrash and death metal to niche micro-genres, such as ‘avant-garde black metal’ and ‘blackened crustpunk’. The show aims to audibly display the broad spectrum of sounds within modern metal, and subsequently promote the bands that are featured.
I thought the presenter did a great job of explaining everything calmly, slowly and in an easy to follow way, with good use of production and beds. The presenter is hugely passionate and knowledgable about their chosen genre - that much is clear as it radiates through the speakers!

Em's Modern Metal is dedicated to showcasing the immense talent and creativity of artists from all walks of life.
By featuring bands and musicians that may have been overlooked or under-represented in mainstream metal, the show actively works towards amplifying their work through both radio play and interviews. This creates a unique listening experience for both new listeners of metal and those who are well-versed in the genre.

Now coming up to its 100th edition, Em's Modern Metal has solidified its place in Cam FM's schedule rotation, and continues to discover and support local and international bands that share the same love for the extremes of music.
